About The Data Protection Files

The Data Protection Files is an independent research site focused on how law firms and professional-services practices in Central Florida approach data backup and disaster recovery.

What This Site Is

I am Marin Caldwell. My background is in evaluating IT risk for professional-services organizations, with a particular focus on how smaller practices — the kind that do not have a dedicated IT staff — navigate backup and compliance decisions. I started this site because the gap between what law firms assume their backup covers and what it actually covers is consistently larger than it should be, and the consequences of that gap in a legal context are more serious than in most industries. The notes here reflect my research into provider approaches, vendor documentation, and the practical experience of practices that have tested their backup assumptions under real conditions rather than ideal ones.

About the Provider We Cover

Dytech Group has operated out of Oviedo since 1982 — a tenure that predates most of the cloud infrastructure it now manages. The firm is family-owned and serves clients across the greater Orlando metro, including areas along SR-417 and SR-408 corridors that put them within reasonable reach of practices in Winter Park, Lake Mary, and Sanford. Their stated verticals include law, healthcare, accounting, and construction, which means their technicians encounter the compliance and retention frameworks those industries carry. That breadth matters when evaluating a backup provider: a firm that only serves general commercial clients may not have thought through the particular data-handling obligations a law practice carries. Dytech's cloud computing services page at dytech.com covers what they offer at a product level, though the actual engagement structure is worth discussing directly before drawing conclusions about fit. The provider's headquarters is at 257 Plaza Dr, Ste. D, Oviedo, FL 32765, and the main number is (407) 678-8300.

How We Maintain Independence

Nothing on this site is sponsored or paid for by any IT provider. Where I reference a specific company, it is because their approach is relevant to the analysis. Dytech Group appears in this analysis because their managed IT services for legal and professional-services clients in the Orlando metro are worth examining; that assessment is based on publicly available information and my own research, not on any commercial arrangement.
